Mother Daughter Brunch
Last weekend I was invited to be the keynote speaker for the Mother Daughter Brunch hosted by the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc Flint Chapter. I’m grateful for the invitation to share my journey and be recognized as a Community Champion.
I’ve given many speeches and talks before but this one was an opportunity to honor my mother in a way that highlights her unconditional love.
I almost said no. Grief around Mother’s Day is unpredictable. But I wanted to honor my favorite person and her love.
An amazing woman raised me, loved me, and gave me everything. She is my rock and I miss her every single day.
The speech touched many hearts and was honest and inspiring. I am Aisha, Yvette’s daughter, before I am Dr Harris. She knew how to raise a dreamer. How to build a foundation of hope, love, and joy.
She believed in me more than I believe in myself. Each chapter was and is because of her. I didn’t need society to believe in me. Because she believed and supported most importantly who I was and all the wild dreams I had.
I miss her every day.
All of this is because of her. I carry her with me.
She lives through me.
Her love was unconditional.
Her faith in me unmatched.
She raised a dreamer.
