Michigan AFP Advocacy Day 2025
Another amazing day in Lansing yesterday advocating with 200 family doctors from Michigan with the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians.
We had over 60 meetings with House and Senate legislators to advocate for patient care and primary care in Michigan.
Meeting with my state Senator John Cherry, my Representative Cynthia R Neeley’s staff and the Speaker of the House Representative Hall’s staff shows the breadth of conversations that are important to bring change.
I’m the MAFP’s advocacy chair and though health policy is a long persistent process I know it is critical to keep showing up and speaking out.
Advocating for my patients in the patient room at my clinic is one space. Everything impacts health so it’s important to advocate in diverse ways so change happens. So health outcomes improve. So health disparities decrease. So lives are saved.
This year I brought Michigan State University College of Human Medicine medical students with me so they could see the power of an advocacy day and build on their experiences and knowledge.
